This week I saw on social media a funny story. It’s about an Italian chef who lost his job at a restaurant in Australia. Among the disputes leading to his dismissal was his refusal to put pineapple on pizza. For him, it violated the culinary traditions of his Italian heritage. 😄
Something as simple as a pizza topping raises a much deeper question for us: What are we willing to refuse because of your faith?
It is easy to say that God comes first when following Him costs us nothing. But what happens when obedience means turning down a promising job? Walking away from a relationship? Setting boundaries in a friendship? Changing our plans for our education because they conflict with what God has asked of us?
“And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.” Matthew 19:29
So, what might you need to put aside today to remain faithful to God? An opportunity? Someone’s approval? A relationship that keeps pulling you away from Him? A plan you are afraid to surrender?
Bring it to Him in prayer. Ask for wisdom, courage, and a heart willing to follow.
Following Jesus is worth the cost because He is worthy of our trust. His love does not promise an easy road, but it assures us that we will never walk it alone. He sees what we cannot see, and He desires our eternal good.
Keep trusting. What you place in God’s hands is held by the One who gave His life for you.
Happy sabbath.
