When the Faucet Stops Running
Across parts of Europe and Puerto Rico, drought conditions are reminding people of something we often take for granted: water.
Think about it. Every day we drink water, shower, wash our hands, cook, and clean. We turn the faucet, and water comes out. It feels so ordinary.
But what happens when the faucet stops running? Suddenly, something we barely noticed becomes incredibly valuable.
Why do we often give something value only after we lose it?
We appreciate our health when we get sick.
We appreciate opportunities after they are gone.
Sometimes we realize how much someone meant to us only after that person is no longer here.
The Bible says:
“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
This is the day.
Today is the day to forgive.
Today is the day to say, “I love you.”
Today is the day to be grateful.
Today is the day to share what you have.
Today is the day to keep walking and look up.
We don’t know what tomorrow holds. So don’t wait until something is gone to recognize that it was a blessing.
Value what God has placed in your hands while you still have it. And maybe the next time you turn on the faucet, pause for a second and say: “Thank You, Lord, for the blessings I too easily call ordinary.”
Happy sabbath
